How to Take More Deer with Your CVA Muzzleloader Rifle with Outdoor Writer John E. Phillips
For many years, muzzleloader enthusiasts were limited to the effective ranges of their muzzleloader rifles. However, in the rapid succession of shooting flint locks to sidelocks, to inline rifles and from round balls to conical bullets, to the most-modern PowerBelt bullets, the muzzleloading industry has extended the range of the muzzleloader hunter up to 200 yards or more. For the western hunter, this extended range is often a real advantage. But for the eastern hunter, I wonder if the extended range has caused us to forget how to be effective deer hunters. CVA’s Tony Smotherman Recommends Using a BDC Reticle on Your CVA Muzzleloader for Western Big Game
. I print-out that chart and cover it with clear packaging tape to waterproof it, and I tape that ballistic chart to my rifle stock. Having this reference on my stock enables me to range an animal and, based on the chart, know exactly where I need to aim. When I hunt in the West, I use the Leupold UltimateSlam riflescope with its BDC reticle on my CVA rifle, because I may have to take a long shot. Continue reading

MUZZLELOADING FOR MARSH HOGS WITH THE CVA APEX
I told De that we needed to get closer. As the boar put his head down to feed we crept and crawled until the distance was cut to about 96 yards. This was close enough. As the boar moved across a high spot, I leveled my .50 caliber CVA APEX muzzleloader and aimed the shot at top of his back. The 250 grain PowerBelt AeroLite took him hard in the spine and he dropped in his tracks. Continue reading
Chad Schearer’s Mountain Caribou Hunt with the CVA Accura V2
I took the shot with my CVA Accura V2. The caribou took the PowerBelt Bullet and went about 40 yards before he dropped. We green-scored the caribou’s rack at more than 400 inches. I don’t have the official score on this caribou yet, because to have a rack officially scored, it has to dry for a certain period. However, from his green score, we believe this mountain caribou will be in the top-five all-time B&C record book for caribou taken with a muzzleloader.
