A Family’s CVA Muzzloader Deer Hunt with Forrest Armke
I have a lot of confidence in the CVA .50 caliber Optima. I load the gun with two Pyrodex pellets and a 250-grain Hornady Bullet. One of the guides here at the Ford Ranch uses this same gun with 3 pellets to take elk. This guide has been so impressed with how accurate the gun shoots, that when Shannon Mason hunted with us in 2010, he suggested we let her shoot that gun to take her first deer. When we were prepping the gun for Shannon, I was really impressed with the trigger pull. Continue reading

Dan Mortensen from Campfire Stories and his CVA Scout
On this hunt, the CVA Scout rifle would be at my side as I hiked the ridges, mountains, and prairies, searching for that elusive muley buck. At about 5 ½ pounds (we’ll say 6 with a scope) I barely knew I was carrying a gun at all—although I was quickly reminded on the 5th day when I let the hammer fall on this public land bruiser. Deer Calls for CVA Muzzleloader Hunters With Tony Smotherman
I believe that the snort/wheeze is one of the most-effective deer calls I’ve ever used. I’ve found it to be especially effective when I’m hunting in the Midwest where the buck-to-doe ratio is much closer to 1:1. Although I’ve said that the deer call is only 30-percent effective, I never go into the woods without one. Continue reading

CVA rifle will do at different distances will be able to shoot far-more accurately at longer ranges than the hunter who goes to a rifle range the week before the season and shoots three rounds at 50 yards and says, “I’m ready to go hunting.” Continue reading
How to Choose the Best Bullet for the Type of Game You’re Hunting with Russell Lynch of M.A.X.
There are some exceptions to these rules, just like there are to any other rules. For instance, if you’ll be shooting a black bear or a hog or a big feral hog at close range (100 yards or less), you can use a 300-grain bullet and 160 grains of powder, not loose powder, or pellets on game like that at that range and knock that bear or that hog off its feet. Now, when you’re shooting a big animal like that, you’ll only be able to shoot about a 3-inch group. Continue reading
